Leading edge tool captures data in real time to better inform care for those with Autism Spectrum Condition

Description

Through data capture technology, the tool empowers caregivers with a way to collect, store and track personalized information in real-time about their loved ones.

Problem Statement

Today, caregivers of individuals on the Autism spectrum have limited and inconsistent methods to record, and track variables that might trigger or serve as indicators for seizures and events. These variables are diverse and often specific for each person, making it difficult for caregivers and physicians to determine relevance and perform meaningful analysis.

Currently, caregivers track multiple variables in an attempt to identify insights. However, data is not always captured consistently due to the urgent caregiving demands of the moment and may not be complete. This is problematic because the medical, care and education teams would then be missing relevant information for decision-making regarding treatments and strategies.

Proposed Solution

The solution will collect, centralize, and store longitudinal information from wearable devices, environmental sensors and a post-incident questionnaire. In this way, users will have an easier and consistent method to capture information. To make data accessible for the users and easy to track, the solution will produce a web app to access the data collected.

Next Steps

As stated above, the solution has been broken down into four main components that the team will work on simultaneously:

  1. Develop a WearOS app to collect biological information through wearable devices.
  2. Use sensors and devices to collect environmental data.
  3. Design a questionnaire form that the user can easily answer after an important medical event.
  4. Create a data lake to centralize and store the information collected from all the components listed above, and a dashboard for the user to visualize it.

This information will be collected and combined to allow caregivers to visualize all the information in one place, and in the future, for researchers to be able to access to potentially provide actionable insights.
